Garmin nuvi 1350 Review

Garmin has been busy making GPS models for advanced users because the existence of the 200 series was just enough for new people to dive into the world of GPS devices, but the new announcements of the Garmin nuvi 1350 and other devices in the 1200 and 1300 series, Garmin has more things up their sleeve and it is surprisingly not for the advanced users at all. Instead, it gives people an alternative option to the affordable 200 series using the design as their main attraction.

Design

The Garmin nuvi 1350 has a 4.3" wide screen that enhances the navigation experience. But the real difference is revealed just by looking at their thickness with the 1350 far thinner and lighter than older nuvi models. This makes it more portable for use outside the car.

Features

This GPS device comes loaded with maps for the US and Europe. You can know the name of the street you are in and also be guided to the right lane with this device. If you want to save your fuel and get the shortest route possible, the ecoRoute™ feature can help you.

The nuvi 1350 is sleeker and slimmer than the other GPS devices. You can put it in your purse or pocket. The rechargeable lithium batteries are idea for traveling by car or for a walk across the street. If you want to know about the trams, buses and subways of the city you are in you can use the Public Transit mode with the help of the CityXplorer™ download.

If you are driving on unfamiliar roads, the lane assist feature of nüvi 1350 will help you decide the right lane for making a turn or an exit.

Actual user review:
• "It didn't take me long to know that I purchased a superior product. I needed the bigger volume due to my poor hearing and this has it. Also, the maps are up to date and this was a minor concern as there were homes that did not show up on my previous model. Visual aids are well managed and keeps you from saying "what?" I assume that this model is Bluetooth capable but I have not been able to pair it with my cell as yet and I am not paying someone to tell me how to do it. The manual is not as detailed as I like but I am very pleased with what it does." - K.Wohlers (Oregon, KY)

With the bright widescreen display it's easy to get the complete picture. You can get driving directions, map details, photo images all in bright colors to read in bright sunlight or the darkest of the night.

If you need to go a new place, the nuvi 1350 will ask you just two questions: “Where to?” and “View map”. Once you have finalized your destination, it will tell you exactly how to proceed and give you all the street names and directions that will help you reach your destination. The CityNavigator NT maps will also advise you on the speed limit on the important roads and tell you about the Points of Interest (POI). You can even know about the surrounding landscape with the help of the digital elevation maps that have shaded contours and great zoom levels. It has an interactive user interface that allows you to toggle between screens with your finger.

The color screen also tells you the important names, addresses and services. You get voice prompted directions and street names. It also has a satellite prediction feature which helps you to calculate the distance and the position from your destination and helps you to get there quickly. Other features like money calculator, time zones and world travel clock make this device a perfect companion for a traveler!

More user comments:

• The nuvi 1350 was bought to use in several other vehicles. I was very surprised by how well it worked. It grabs the satellites and sets up routes quickly. It is very accurate. The lane information is helpful for upcoming turns. This model doesn't have the traffic input, but as I don't live in a major city that function is useless to me anyway. The display is clear and easy to read. All in all I am quite happy with this model. A word of caution regarding operation. When initially setting up this device, FIRST install the software in your computer and follow instructions to connect your Garmin. Three things will then properly happen. Your Garmin will be registered, properly activated, and it will be loaded with the very latest maps. Trying to take it out of the box and operate it will cause many of the problems I have heard people discuss. I highly recommend the friction mount. It stays on the dash nicely and allows you to position the Garmin closer to you. - J.Merritt (USA)

• I love this thing! Simple to use, fairly easy to learn, and you can't get it lost, even on country roads! That's what it is all about anyway! Nothing better for point to point navigation if you have an address. The lane help is really helpful when navigating through a city. I recommend the wide screen. Notice: this is NOT a map. It is point to point navigation. It is totally reliable, but us old-time map readers will still like to see where we are on a map. But you can do just fine with this unit only. It is bright enough to see in sunshine and loud enough to hear even with the windows down. Acquires satellites quickly, and calcs routes rapidly after stops. - W.Morrison (USA)
