Garmin nuvi 2250 Review

Many of Garmin's devices received positive feedback from customers and critics alike for their simple interface and amazing accuracy in keeping users in position. The Garmin nuvi devices are the most common amongst consumers because these devices primarily target drivers. Therefore, many of the models are widescreen so drivers can see all of the important information. Prices of these devices can go as low as $140 but they do not offer many features. Those that do not mind a size reduction in exchange for newer features may find the Garmin nuvi 2250 to be a good buy.

Design

3.5-inch models may seem to be a rarity these days but they still have their advantages. The Garmin nuvi 2250 has that size but ends up being more compact and portable than other 3.5-inch GPS devices because of the thinner bezel. This makes it great for both driving and walking around the streets.

Interface

A reduced size usually puts the interface at risk but Garmin devices are known for their simplistic interfaces. Like other devices, the home screen consists of only 2 icons where the first icon takes the user through a wizard that helps even the newest users come up with a destination so the device can do the rest. Other users can touch the "View Map" icon to see the surroundings and make advanced route plans.

Other than the lack of a QWERTY keyboard, the experience is pretty much similar to the bigger Garmin nuvi devices which are a good thing. The 3-D view is there and it operates smoothly. The vehicle icon is animated and it is also possible to change that icon into something else such as a character which can reflect a different usage scenario. The map can also be zoomed to see graphical representations of elevation.

Navigation Features

The nuvi 2250 is basically a complete package of basic features in the navigational front. The device has U.S., Canada, and Mexico maps right out of the box and being a 2010 device, the millions of points of interests are fairly updated compared to the older 3.5-inch models. The City Navigator NT street maps are detailed so the device can accurately give out turn-by-turn directions using voice prompts. The voice prompts actually call out the street names using text-to-speech technology so drivers can stay focused on the road. Those that live in cities can spend a little bit of extra for optional cityXplorer content so they can get assistance with public transportation methods and schedules.

The ecoRoute feature is great feature for people that need to save fuel and money. When planning a route, the ecoRoute feature can be activated so that the device will calculate the best possible route that prioritizes fuel efficiency.

When the route involves the highway, the Lane Assist feature can come in handy. This feature is implemented in many mid-range to high-end Garmin devices and it does the exact same thing as the 2250 version. Whenever there is an important exit turn nearby, the feature will visually tell the driver to be in the right lane so a turn can be made.

Frequent usage of the Garmin nuvi 2250 has its advantages thanks to the nuRoute technology. This feature will effectively predict the driver's next destination based on previous routines and it will even give estimated travel times that become more accurate as the feature gets used. This is a useful feature for people that need to reach a certain destination as fast as possible. No subscription is required either and the feature remains free from the start.

Extra Features

The Garmin nuvi 2250 is also a nifty travel companion whether it will be used in the car or on the go. It has a number of essential tools like a calculator, various converters that support measurements and currency, and a clock that can track different time zones. Maps can also be decorated with photos to allow photo navigation through the Garmin Connect Photos service. In case of an emergency, the "Where Am I" function quickly calculates the exact position of the user and it shows any important landmarks like hospitals and police stations nearby. Plugging in a microSD card allows users to download new content to their GPS device too.
