Garmin nuvi 2350LMT Review

Eyeing Garmin as your potential choice for car GPS navigation is a good idea if you want powerful features in a very accessible interface. However, you might be faced with a challenge in finding the right model for you. Garmin's product page features tons of car GPS devices with many looking the same in screen size and design. Even if you restrict your choice to the newer 2300 series, you will still find yourself with 8 different models in front of you. The Garmin nuvi 2350LMT falls in the middle of the group where the navigational features stand out while keeping the extras to a minimal so the price does not bump up too high.

Design

The design of the Garmin nuvi 2350LMT is all that you would expect from a typical 4.3-inch GPS unit. It is touchscreen so you won't have to worry about mystery buttons and it remains compact so you can take it with you so you can navigate on foot. Though it is not advertised as a handheld GPS device, there is a feature that lets you change the default "car" icon to a "person" highlighting the fact that you can take it out of your car. Another unique design aspect lies on the screen because you can view it even under direct sunlight.

Interface

The Garmin nuvi 2350LMT is for people that want to pick up the device and use it right away. The interface is that friendly as it uses detailed icons that each has descriptions so you won't get lost. If you want to plan a quick route, you just tap the "Where To?" icon which was made famous in the earlier car GPS models and then choose the necessary options from there. If you need to see the map before making plans, you just tap the "View Map" icon instead. No matter how you plan your route, the text-to-speech feature will always serve as an interface convenience because it calls out the street names so you really know when to turn.

Navigation Features

The 2350 is the lowest model number that you can get if you want the lane assist with junction view feature and it happens to be very useful if your routes frequently take you to the highway. Every highway has its road signs and exits and the junction view puts these signs to better visibility on the screen. When an exit nearby has to be taken, the Garmin nuvi 2350LMT notifies you in advance by showing a visual indicator highlighting the lane that you should stay in if you do not want to miss the exit.

Outside this highway feature, you still get a lot of flexibility because in addition to the U.S. maps, you also get Canada and Mexico maps which is great if you want to go anywhere in North America. What is even better is that you won't need to purchase a new GPS device nor spend extra money on map updates because the Garmin nuvi 2350LMT offers lifetime map updates. You can further beef up your maps in the pedestrian side of things if you spend extra on the cityXplorer content. This gives you access to public transit statistics which can be useful if you are traveling in cities that you are not familiar with.

You also get the benefit of the lifetime traffic updates so you can plan different routes to the same destination depending on the traffic conditions. You can make the most out of this through the trafficTrends feature which is part of the nüRoutes technology so you can watch it predict more accurately the time you will arrive to your destination even with traffic in the way. It is also good to add your most frequently visited destinations to your "Favorites" so you can let the myTrends feature automatically predict your next destination.

You can even save some gasoline money if you use the ecoRoute function. Combined with the traffic features, route planning becomes even more sophisticated because you can travel through a hassle free route that saves you the most fuel.

Extra Features

The Garmin nuvi 2350LMT is perhaps one of the best dedicated GPS navigators in Garmin's arsenal because the higher-end models mainly add convenience features that are outside navigation. It costs $230 which puts in the midrange category of the 2300 series but you get a ton of navigation features that makes route planning a lot more enjoyable and convenient.
