Garmin nuvi 2370LT Review

Garmin is one of the global leaders in GPS devices because of how accurate their devices are and how easy they are to use. They are also backed with some advanced features if you give any of the higher-end models a spin. High-end models are indeed worth taking closer look because they look very similar to their entry-level counterparts. They also have slightly higher model numbers but higher numbers do not always mean that they are superior in every way. The Garmin nuvi 2370LT is more of a specialized GPS device but it is still well rounded with some of the nicest high-end features.

Design

The Garmin nuvi 2370LT is on the top of the Garmin 2300 devices but virtually looks the same as other devices in the family. It has that nice 4.3-inch touchscreen display that is sunlight-readable and it is light enough to make it a handy pocket GPS device when going out on foot.

Interface

The Garmin 2370LT keeps the interface similar to many of the other 4.3-inch Garmin devices so you should have no trouble with the navigating if you used a Garmin device before and first time users will find that the "View Map" and "Where To?" buttons are highly accessible and self-explanatory. The maps are highly detailed especially if you go for the 3D view. But unlike the Garmin nuvi 2360, it does not have the 3D terrain and dual orientation features.

There is a built-in microphone in the Garmin nuvi 2370LT unit and it has a couple of functions. One of the functions is to take advantage of its speech recognition capabilities. Many of the menu items and icons are labeled so you can get the device to understand these commands if you clearly speak them. You can also make your own customizable voice command to wake up the GPS device whenever you need to. The other main function is for the Bluetooth connectivity where you can make hands-free calls when paired with Bluetooth phone.

Navigation Features

The Garmin nuvi 2370LT features lifetime traffic updates so you do not need a special accessory or apply for a subscription in order to get lively traffic reports. This traffic data is essential for the device to plan a much better route where there is a high certainty that you won't bump into interferences. As you move along, you will likely run into plenty of points of interests along the way as the database features over 6 million points. It is also good to use the trafficTrends feature which is one of the parts of the nüRoute technology. This feature provides you with some good estimates on when you will reach your destination.

Perhaps the most important quality of the Garmin nuvi 2370LT is the maps that are included. It is the only device in the 2300 series that has full maps of the U.S., Canada, and Mexico areas as well as the areas in Europe. With all these City Navigator NT maps, this device really targets travellers that frequently go to these areas. There is a slight downside with the lack of lifetime maps updates but if a 2370LMT model comes out, that should cover all bases.

The Garmin nuvi 2370LT lets you bookmark all of your favorite or most visited points of interests so you can easily head back later. Doing this often also makes the myTrends feature more useful because it can automatically plan your next route by assuming your next destination based on your bookmarked points.

The ecoRoute technology also provides you with a way to create a good route. What makes this route planning feature different is its objective to make the route as fuel efficient as possible. Relying on this feature often may not bring you to your destinations the fastest but it will save you the most fuel which is a remarkable money saver. It works accurately too by analyzing road speed data and tracking fuel usage accordingly.

The last navigation function is a familiar one which involves highways. The lane assist and junction view feature will show you what lane you need to be in so you won't miss the critical exit turn indicated in your planned route. The junction view is a special 3D perspective view that will show any key signs so you can respond accordingly.

The $270 asking price suggests that the Garmin nuvi 2370LT is a top tier device but that is only the case when it comes to preloaded maps. As long as you are fine with the lack of lifetime maps updates and dual orientation, the Garmin nuvi 2370LT should serve you well.
