Garmin nuvi 2450LM Review
Garmin is a popular manufacturer that provides automotive GPS devices to a wide audience of drivers. They offer
devices of various sizes each with different sets of features to give these consumers a decent set of options.
Although many of their models have been earning their share of success stories, competitors continue to be
aggressive and the trend is now shifting to larger form factors. Many new models now sport 5-inch
displays but unfortunately these devices are a bit more expensive. The Garmin nuvi 2450LM
hopes to provide some relief and manages to put all sorts of good features to really make the price tempting.

Garmin nuvi 2450LM GPS Navigator
Design
The nuvi 2450LM is basically a larger version of the standard widescreen Garmin nuvi device. Those that have
used these types of devices before will feel very comfortable. It comes with a vehicle suction cup mount and the
larger display means that it is easier to go through the interface.
Interface
The larger design led to some room for improvements for the interface. It shares the main interface enhancements
that the other 2010 devices received with a more detailed home interface that does not make any sacrifices. Those
that use the "Where To?" and "View Map" features can still access them in the same spots and have their same
large icons. The only difference is that there are smaller icons that lead to the other functions so they are
always within reach. The map view is livelier as the vehicle animates and it can be changed to a person in case the
user carries the GPS around while walking.
Navigation Features
Although the Garmin nuvi 2450LM is targeted for basic car GPS users that want a large screen, the 2450LM is
powerful when it comes to route planning. Planning a simple route is quick and easy using the "Where To?" feature
while advanced routing features allow up to 100 routes to be stored in memory. A simulation can be run at any time
to test the route.
If the route proves to be too heavy on the gasoline usage, the ecoRoute feature can take charge where it can do
a much better job in planning a route with fuel-efficiency as its top priority. This feature really works because
it uses various speed and acceleration data.
The Garmin nuvi 2450LM and its features can be used in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico areas which are populated
with nearly 6 million of points of interests. The LM suffix is indiction that nuvi
2450LM comes with free lifetime map updates that do not require any subscription or
upfront fee so you can continue to use their devices without the need for purchasing another just to stay
up-to-date.
It also has an electronic bread crumb trail feature where up to 10,000 points can be used to
see the traveled path in order to avoid retracing.
Another useful feature that greatly reduces retracing is the Lane Assist feature. Exits on the
highway are often missed because the driver is in the wrong lane and cannot make the turn so the device needs to
recalculate the route. The Lane Assist feature prevents this instance from happening by showing which lane the
driver needs to be ahead of time. It uses 3-D graphics to give the driver a sense of perspective.
The nuvi 2450LM is also designed to help people reach their routes faster with little user intervention using
the nuRoute technology which uses trafficTrends to better predict estimated times
of arrival based on traffic. If destinations are bookmarked as "Favorites" the device may make more accurate
predictions on where the driver needs to head next.
Extra Features
The "Where Am I?" feature makes a return and is accessible from the home screen where it will show various
statistics on the user's position along with any nearby points of interests that are related to emergencies like
hospitals and police stations. It also has a few applications including a calculator and a tool that allows posting
of pictures on the map for better navigation.
The Garmin nuvi 2450LM is priced a bit higher than the nuvi 2450 but this next-gen 5-inch device is designed to
save you money in long run because the map updates never expire and the maps themselves look gorgeous on the
display leaving very few reasons to upgrade to a smaller device with more features.
