Garmin nuvi 2475LT Review

There are a lot of interesting GPS devices out on the market right now and Garmin is in a pretty good position with their various units targeting different market segments. This makes it a bit difficult to choose the right model that fits your needs and budget.

Analyzing the different features for each Garmin nuvi can take some time especially since you will encounter different devices with the same price tag. While there are some nice devices to get particularly the ones with Bluetooth equipped, you are better off waiting for the new Garmin nuvi 2400 series and the Garmin nuvi 2475LT is one of the new devices with Bluetooth built-in.

Design

The Garmin nuvi 2475LT looks a bit deceiving because it resembles just about all of the existing 4.3-inch Garmin nuvi units. While the design is totally fine and sleek, it would have been neat if Garmin managed to come up with some accents to make their new products look a bit different from the rest of the bunch.

Features

The interface gets some nice facelifts here and there although the home screen has the same appeal as its predecessors. This interface has received enough improvements for Garmin to call it the Garmin Guidance 2.0 interface. Many speed improvements were made to the way the maps are rendered and the routes are generated. Destination searching is much quicker and business selecting on the map is more direct without the need of menus.

Garmin nuvi vertical orientationThe nuvi 2475LT can also be rotated to portrait view if you want to see a different map perspective by going to Settings > Display > Orientation. This becomes notably useful when you activate the photoReal junction view. This is an upgrade to the traditional lane assist mode and still focuses on getting you to the right exit by telling you the correct lane in advance. But the overall look of the interface is much more informative. You can now see both the junction view and the street map in a split screen fashion and the enhanced graphics still let you see the road signs. You will also have a good idea on what kind of services you are approaching the moment you approach the highway thanks to the Enhanced Exit Services.

There are now 8 million points of interest in the database which is about 2 million more than the previous models. Although you won't be able to update the maps for free, you can enjoy the refined Lifetime Traffic updates which integrates 3D and Garmin Traffic Avoidance. These technologies work together in monitoring the traffic conditions approximately 2 billion times a month so you can properly bypass those congestion areas and arrive at key destinations faster. This is a worthy addition since this model lacks the ecoRoute feature. Subscription is never needed for this feature to work.

The Garmin nuvi 2475LT has support for cityXplorer maps if you need better pedestrian navigation. microSD cards can be used to install these features along with other useful add-ons such as custom voices if you want to hear something different while navigating. There is a special site in Garmin's website called the Garmin Garage which showcases all kinds of custom vehicles that you can use for your map view. These are purely cosmetic so it is not necessary to use unless you want to add some amusement to your routing.

Bluetooth functionality is also available and it brings the same convenience that previous Garmin nuvi Bluetooth devices bring. As long as your smartphone has Bluetooth connectivity, you can make hands-free phone calls by using the GPS touchscreen display as a control panel. Texting is a possibility as well.

The Garmin Guidance 2.0 interface is the main feature here which is huge because it has been a long time since the interface had any noticeable updates. Lane Assist looks nicer now and the portrait view may turn out to be a favorite for those who want to see further ahead on the map. Think of it like a standard Garmin nuvi hardware to receive a huge operating system update. The free Lifetime Traffic update is also a great addition at this price.
