Garmin nuvi 2595LMT Review

Pushing GPS technologies forward is a nice thing because as the accuracy improves, more people become aware on how reliable these units are especially when hitting the road. Planning safe and fast routes well reduce accidents, eliminate heavy traffic areas, and save money and frustration. When Garmin releases new devices, they want to make sure their products head more towards the mainstream market. But this isn't always easy because each year, Garmin adds more devices to their nuvi lineup and the end result is a pretty confusing mess - at least to individuals that are totally new to the GPS scene.

Most of Garmin's models have four digits and these numbers do not really use a recognizable pattern. For instance, Garmin has a GPS device called nuLink 1695 which has been around for more than a year. No other models currently exist but Garmin announced the Garmin nuvi 2595 model that has the same features but measure 5 inches in screen size. This GPS device promise a nice set of features that older Garmin devices lack.

Design

It is a good thing that Garmin added the unique "95" numbers at the end of the common 2500 series because the Garmin nuvi 2595LMT generally looks the same as older models. But if you were to choose between a 5-inch and a 4.3-inch display, you will benefit from a 5-inch display in the long run since it is likely that you will mount this on your dashboard using the accessories it comes with. The large screen can come in handy when getting a nice view of the map.

Features

The 5-inch display is also nice for getting the most out of the Garmin Guide 2.0 interface which is one of the new additions to future Garmin products. The interface successfully polishes the areas that needed improvement and keep other elements the same like the famous two-icon home screen that just about any user can figure out.

Speed improvements are noticeable when you explore the different menus. Cosmetic changes are more noticeable if you take a closer look at the lane assist with junction feature. Garmin has made decent enhancements to the point that Garmin had to give this feature a different name. Now called the photoReal junction view, lane assists show photorealistic graphics with better emphasis on road signs. It is also now possible to make this new view show in one side of the screen so you can still see the map in the other side of the screen. You can use the device in portrait view as well if you are not satisfied with how the landscape view divides the screen.

Lifetime maps and lifetime traffic make a return and the LMT suffix clearly portrays that. Both of these elements have nice improvements too with the lifetime traffic getting the bigger boost. It includes a new monitoring technology called 3D Traffic which works by connecting to millions of other Garmin owners and even mobile phone users to obtain the necessary traffic data in real-time. It also takes advantage of the fixed traffic sensors on many of the major roads. Traffic checks can total beyond 2 billion times a month which is enough of a huge improvement over previous models. On the maps end, there are more points of interests to see and you can still upgrade the map data 4 times a year.

The added Bluetooth and voice recognition support are the defining features of the Garmin nuvi 2595LMT. Just like other Garmin nuvi models with these features, Bluetooth opens up the possibility of connecting mobile phones so you can place calls using the touchscreen or talk directly to the device and hear responses through the loudspeaker. Even if there is nobody on the line, the Garmin nuvi 2595LMT can understand basic commands so you can plan routes or go to fast destinations without touching the screen.

If you set the new interface improvements and traffic monitoring enhancements aside, the Garmin nuvi 2595LMT sounds like a pretty standard Garmin nuvi gadget. But it is the $250 price tag that really makes this device welcome in the large pool of models. With the combined features of a large display, free lifetime updates, speech recognition, and Bluetooth connectivity, the nuvi 2595LMT is easily better than most of the devices out there. Just purchase the ecoRoute feature separately and there will be very few to no reasons to go for a more expensive GPS device.
