Garmin has up the ante again with the new nuvi 3700 series. The design of these new Garmins have gone through radical changes with obvious influences from the hugely popular Apple iPhone. Top of the line in this series is the Garmin nuvi 3790T.

Design

The Garmin nuvi 3790T features a 4.3-inch multi-touch glass display housed in a brushed metal casing. It is solidly built and measures just 8.95mm (0.35") thick. With Dual orientation capabilities capabilities you can use the nuvi 3790T either horizontally or vertically. This makes it truly portable, allowing you to hold it in your hands like a phone. It also fits neatly in your pocket or purse. It comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery allowing for up to 4 hours of portable use.

New Features

Garmin has added many new and innovative features to the nuvi 3790T like advanced routing capabilities that include trafficTrends™, myTrends™ and Voice Activated navigation. Map coverage includes preloaded street maps for USA, Canada and Mexico.

With trafficTrends, the nüvi 3790T automatically learns daytime trends for traffic flow to improve your routes and better predict your estimated time of arrival based on time of day and day of week. And you get free trafficTrends™ updates every time you connect your device to myGarmin.

With myTrends, when you save your regular destinations in your “Favorites,” your nüvi 3790T will, over time, begin to figure out where you’re going even without your telling it! It provides time of arrival and relevant traffic information. So whether you’re driving to and from work or a regularly scheduled weekly event, your nüvi 3790T will help you get there on time.

The new voice activated navigation is another great feature that enhances safety on the road. With its innovative speech recognition, you can control the GPS with your voice thus allowing you to keep both hands on the wheel. To put the nuvi 3790T on navigation mode, just say a customizable voice command and begin speaking menu options that are clearly displayed on the screen. With its "Where Am I?" emergency locator, you always know your location.

Also new is 3D Building and Terrain view. You’ll see representations of prominent buildings and map contours in 3D at low zoom levels, giving you a more realistic perspective of the terrain. With 3D view we will be able to quickly recognize buidings and landmarks for better and faster location awareness.

The nuvi 1390T looks and feels like an iPhone. It comes with a capacitive multi-touch display that allows you to slide, pinch, and tap the screens. This is definitely a first in a GPS navigation device. You can use it either horizontally or vertically and slide, pinch, and tap the screens with your fingers, just like an iPhone.

Navigation

The interface is designed to be intuitive and easy to use. Upon power up it greets you with 2 simple options: "Where To?" and "View Map." Touch the color screen to easily look up addresses and services and get voice-prompted, turn-by-turn directions that speak street names to your destination. It comes preloaded with detailed City Navigator® NT street maps, nearly 6 million POIs, 2-D or 3-D maps and speed limits for most major roads. With 3-D Building and Terrain view, you’ll see representations of prominent buildings in many cities and map contours at low zoom levels, giving you a realistic perspective of the terrain.

And with HotFix® satellite prediction, the nuvi 3790T takes less time to calculate your position.
