Garmin nuvi 765T Review

When it comes to GPS devices, people have different needs. People that are new to GPS devices may want something that is easier to use while others want a device that is accurate. Some of the GPS devices out on the market today tackle some of the areas making it very difficult to make any final decisions. Garmin nuvi on the other hand attempts to tackle all areas and the Garmin nuvi 765T manages to do that by incorporating loads of GPS features while keeping the interface very intuitive.

Design

What is striking about the Garmin nuvi 765T is that the design is very simple, yet the large 4.3  inch touch-screen display is specially made for viewing under any lighting condition. It is also small enough to carry around with you when you decide to go on foot.

Interface

Just like the design, the interface couldn t have been any simpler. Once you turn the device after unboxing it, you will immediately be presented with two large icons without going through any setup wizard, and a few smaller buttons to change options and make use of the extra features.

• "The Garmin 765T GPS is a an excellent product. It is solidly constructed, the screen is easy to read, and, so far, all directions when we have used it have be extremely accurate. We especially like the "Lane Assist", which is a terrific tool in this unit! While a bit more expensive than most, the extra cost is worth the extra features such as the bluetooth phone and MP3 player. The only downside we have found so far is that the icons on the screen marking favorite places are almost too small to be seen. Navigation

You can either navigate using the  Where to?  icon if you are a beginner or you can take a broader look at your surroundings by click the  View Map  icon and start planning your routes through the touch-screen. The  Where to?  feature is the easiest way to go because all you need to do is enter the destination and the device generates the route.

Thanks to the HotFix satellite prediction feature and advanced processor, your position will smoothly update as you go along so you can easily track your movement and find out where you need to turn next whether you are using the 2-D or 3-D views. If you don t want to keep your eyes on the screen, you can let the Text-to-Speech feature help you out by calling out which street names require a turn.

The map itself is very detailed with colored indicators and plenty of POIs represented by icons according to category. You will find over 6 million preloaded points of interest in the Garmin nuvi 765T and have the option to add even more. The 3-D building view also helps you orient yourself so you know which direction you should go in case you get lost.

When you start going on the highway, you can count on the Garmin nuvi 765T in selecting the lane before an important turn needs to be made with the  lane assist  feature. Gorgeous visuals help you by indicating which lane you should be in and highlighting the signs that matter.

It also actively scans the route for any obstructions including traffic jams and road constructions and then constructs a new route to bypass them. These alerts are lifetime coming from live traffic data, but may not be available in all areas.

Other Features

Unlike the 755T, the Garmin nuvi 765T has Bluetooth capability allowing wireless connectivity to your phone so you can use your GPS device to make phone calls using the touch-screen, built-in microphone, and speaker. All the other features of the 755T are carried over to the 765T.

With all these fantastic features, there are basically no known disadvantages of the device aside from the high price tag which may upset some people. However, the vast numbers of features clearly make up for it.

• "Bought this for my wife, because she has to travel around the state. She took it on vacation to Texas, and while driving in her rental car, the GPS automatically alerted her to a traffic problem, recalculated her route, and got her to the airport on time. It's graphics are fantastic. The speed limit appears while driving on major highways. It changes to reflect each revised speed within about 2 seconds of each new speed limit sign. It has a digital speedometer which accurately displays the speed of the car. I bought the "sandbad" dash mount device from Amazon. That thing won't shift or slide, no matter how you drive! The internal speaker is inadquate for listening to MP3 files, but it's sufficient for the multi-lingual traffic voices. You must update the firmware. On our first trip, it started rebooting for no reason, but once I connected to my PC and updated the firmware, it has operated flawlessly. Overall, can't say enough good things about this GPS.
