Garmin nuvi
775T Review
When it comes to general purpose GPS devices, there are only
two different kinds of GPS devices that people can choose from.
Either they can have the basic GPS devices that are focused on
car navigation and easy functionality or advanced GPS devices
that have more features that real road warriors need.
Obviously, beginner GPS users won’t go for the advanced models
because the user interface tends to clutter up. But the
Garmin nuvi 775T which is one of the advanced
GPS devices manages to make the user interface very clean while
catering to advanced users as well.

Design
The simplistic design clearly shows that the Garmin nuvi is
intended for driving and carrying around too. The wide
touch-screen display makes it easy for people to see more in
both 2-D and 3-D map views.
Actual user review:
• "Simple, reliable, and fully featured. There is not
much this GPS device can't do. I am travelling to Europe this
summer so I wanted a device that has both US and European maps.
The thing I struggled the most with was the 'Tom Tom vs Garmin'
decision. Both have some unique features but in the end the
various online reviews about the Garmin being easier to use,
and the NAVTEQ maps being more accurate in the US, combined
with the 'free for life' traffic updates convinced me that this
was the unit for me. And I have not been disapointed. The
display is easy to read, even in sunlight, operation could not
be simpler, and it works very well." - DMG (MN,USA)
Interface
If you compare the interface of the 775T with a 205-series
model, you will notice that they are nearly identical when it
comes to the number of smaller buttons, but fully identical in
terms of the main features. Even people who never used a GPS
device before should be able to set a route using the easy
“Where to?” icon or check out their current location using the
“View Map” icon.
Navigation
Not only does the nuvi 775T have over 6 million
points of interest (POI) scattered around the
United States, but transatlantic maps of
Europe are preloaded as well opening up the
device to the European crowds and travelers. As long as you are
in those covered areas, you can easily track your current
position with precision because of the HotFix satellite
prediction technology and fast map redraws so your
position quickly updates as you move about. When you switch to
the 3-D mode, you can activate the 3-D building view to get a
better idea of your surroundings and face the direction you
need to be when following your set route.
Once you start moving around after you set a route, all you
need to do is follow the indictors or keep your ears open
because the Text-to-Speech capability allows
the 775T to say out loud the street names whenever a turn is
needed. Multiple routes can also be planned and managed easily.
As you progress through your trip, an electronic bread crumbs
system takes in effect so you can see the last 10,000 points
that you were in so you can easily retrace your path when you
need to head back. If traffic jams get in the way, the lifetime
alerts let you know so you can follow a detour that the 775T
automatically proposes.
Highway navigation isn’t a problem either because the
“Lane Assist” feature tells you what lane you
need to be in to follow your selected route. It also helps you
bring any highway signs and road signs on the screen so you
have an idea when you need to turn and from what lane.
Other Features
The Garmin nuvi 775T doubles as a hands-free Bluetooth
accessory for your phone, a music player, and an image viewer.
There is just so much that you can do with the Garmin 775T
that you can easily forget that it is a GPS device.
More user reviews:
• "I was specifically looking for a model with both
North America and Europe maps, capable of supporting multiple
languages for speech synthesis (so that my non-English speaking
parents could use it as well), traffic information, lane
assist, and pretty good UI. I had narrowed my choices down to
the Garmin nüvi 775T and the Tomtom 930T, but eventually went
for the Garmin for a couple of reasons. For one thing, I am a
little biased, having used their aviation panel mounted models
for a few years and I knew that Garmin makes excellent units.
This is a feature rich device; I haven't had time to play with
all its functions yet; it is able to get a satellite fix even
in non optimal situations (such as tree coverage, tall
building, even indoors if a window is nearby" - Giraldus

• "Okay, I got lazy and bought the 775t from Amazon. I
must say, this is a huge improvement over the built in nav
system in my car and even more so over the $100 issue of a nuvi
I purchased retail for my wife last year. I will be traveling
to Germany, so paying extra for the built in maps was worth it
to me. Amazing detail there, by the way. Even walking paths I
used in Bad Homburg were on the map. As an aside, I've learned
that the built in nature of the European maps is an improvement
to my uninformed suggestion below. Yes, you can save a few
dollars by buying the 770t and purchasing additional maps on SD
chips, but I suspect this will slow the map retreival process
somewhat. The convenience of having the maps preloaded may be
worth the extra cost of the 775t. The 775t is amazingly
intuitive. There really is no user's manual to speak of (unless
there's something online at Garmin, which I haven't checked).
The quick start pamphlet that comes with the unit is all you
need to start using this device. " - N.De Plume (Lake
Forrest,USA)
