TomTom Ships New XXL Series PNDs
TomTom recently launched some new Portable Navigation Devices (PNDs) that build on the popularity of their large screens.
The extra wide 5″ screen of the new TomTom XXL 550T and the TomTom XXL 550TM makes reading the map displays a breeze. Both comes with TomTom’s new EasyMenu UI and preloaded US, Canada and Mexico maps, MapShare access, IQ Routes and lifetime traffic updates. The XXL 550TM also comes with lifetime map updates for $30 more. Other notable features includes Advanced Lane Guidance and over 7 million POIs. With TomTom’s exclusive Map Share On-Demand Updates, you have the ability to update your own map instantly or download verified updates from other drivers.
The XXL 550T retails for $229.95 and the XXL 550TM goes for $259.95. At these prices both these units offers great value for money.

“Carminat” by TomTom
In a partnership with Renault, TomTom has announced that it is going to bring high quality OEM navigation to car buyers in a form of embedded navigation solution called the “Carminat“.
The 5.8 inch in-car GPS device will have the ability to easily upgrade their maps, POI and information available through an easy download. The fact that car owners will become a part of the millions who use TomTom, and get full support and update capability is a big plus. It will also have a built-in RDS-TMC traffic receiver.
“TomTom sees automotive as major growth area in the navigation space,” said Harold Goddijn, TomTom’s CEO. “Given that Renault, one of the top five automotive brands, chose us to work with and the fact that we have brought the Carminat TomTom solution to market in record time gives us confidence in our role as a serious player in this market.”
It will be available from spring across Western Europe, initially launching in the new Renault Clio, but will soon be in the new Renault Megane and Scenic.

TomTom Introduces the New TomTom Go 740 Live
At the recent CES in Las Vegas TomTom announced that its TomTom GO 740 LIVE navigator will be available for the US market during 2nd Quarter of 2009. It aims to provide the smartest route to help save money, time and fuel. It keeps you updated about drive times and accidents and immediately reroutes according to the conditions.
This new interface offers both easier touch controls and improved voice activation. Sporting a 4.3 inch full TFT color touchscreen, it equips a Bluetooth, preloaded maps of Canada and US, high-sensitivity GPS chipset, 2GB internal memory, built-in SIM card and GPRS modem for plug-and-play connectivity and a rechargeable internal 3 hour battery.
Weighing just 7.9 oz and measuring 3.4” x 5.0” x 0.9”, it bundles up several services like TomTom Weather, QuickGPSfix, Real-time traffic speeds and incident reports every 2-5 minutes, Local Search powered by Google lets you locate more than 11 million businesses, TomTom Fuel Price Service which gives information about the gas stations and TomTom Buddies that keeps you connected with your buddies who use the same device.

TomTom Launching GO 740 LIVE and 940 LIVE
At a press conference recently TomTom unveiled the new 540, 740 and 940 connected devices. These utilize a GPRS data connection to provide access to dynamic routing information which takes into account current road conditions. The TomTom GO 740 LIVE and 940 LIVE which will be connected devices through their cellular networked HD module. This will offer high quality up-to-date traffic data feeds with available traffic data and information from other users who are also using the TomTom HD service. The service will also offer fuel prices to subscribers. The units will be available in Europe, and carry a 9.95 Euro monthly price.
TomTom has brought Google to the table as a partner for search on the GPS, and will deliver results that are easily routed to with the touch of a button.
