Magellan Maestro 4220
Review
The Magellan Maestro 4220 GPS is far more
than first meets the eye with its extra wide touchscreen
capabilities and ultra-sleek, ultra-thin, stylish design. With
more than six million preprogrammed points of interest (POI)
scattered throughout all 50 U.S. states, as well as the rest of
North America, it's rather simple to find your way around
wherever you're going using the interactive, user-friendly
menu.

Product Overview
The pocket sized and super thin design of the Magellan
Maestro 4220 GPS makes it the absolute
thinnest personal navigation positioning
device available today, combining together modern styling with
advanced technology. Despite the many detailed capabilities of
the mobile unit, its users report being able to route their own
destinations without even reading the enclosed directions
thanks to the innovative but incredibly easy to use interface
of the Maestro 4220.
A 4.3" wide WQVGA color, anti-glare
touchscreen gives users access to an easy to navigate menu that
includes everything from personal addresses that can easily be
backed up and stored on the home computer using a compatible SD
memory card, to a state-of-the-art antenna system that offers
the utmost in reliable navigation. Users can program their home
address, or addresses they visit frequently, to make return
trips from any location on the continent simple and easy.
This particular GPS unit is covered by a twelve months parts
and labor warranty that is provided by Magellan, and purchase
includes useful accessories such as a car charger, a carrying
pouch, the user's manual and accompanying installation disc,
and a suction cup mount and adhesive pad. For multilingual
users, there are also language options in French and
Spanish in addition to English to choose from.
Notable Benefits and Features
The benefits of the Magellan Maestro 4220 GPS are numerous
despite its relatively small size and include attractive
features such as the built-in address book,
which can create and store new personal points of interest in
addition to those that are preloaded. The Automatic Reroute
feature makes the hassle of navigating around detours a thing
of the past with automatically rerouted directions to avoid
construction and traffic jams, along with Auto Night View,
allowing the user to adjust the color and contrast for easier
nighttime viewing.
Another beneficial feature of the Magellan Maestro 4220,
Customizable Route Methods, gives users the
ability to choose from various route methods including Fastest
Time, Shortest Distance, Most or Least Used Freeways, and Avoid
Toll Road options. This, along with SmartDetour™, which prompts
user to avoid upcoming traffic problems with alternate routes
and turn by turn guidance, makes road trips more pleasant as
well as markedly safer.
The unit's Interactive POI feature includes
a host of onscreen icons that with one touch will outline lists
of places such as restaurants, banks, ATM machines, gas
stations, hotels, airports, coffee shops, and plenty of others,
along with the display of their address and phone numbers and
instant route directions. And, the preloaded maps of North
America, including the entire United States, Canada, Mexico and
Puerto Rico, make countless miles of travel possible.
The QuickSpell™ auto-complete feature along
with spelling correction allows the user to quickly and
conveniently find destinations even without knowing the exact
name or the correct spelling. Coupled with the SayWhere™
text-to-speech feature, users are also able to actually hear
the names of streets at each turn.
The Magellan Maestro's Bird's-Eye 3D View
feature gives users the choice between viewing their
surroundings in either two or three dimensions, with even more
customizable options like the Maneuver List, or Map View, or
the TrueView™ 3D split screen.
Without power, the Magellan Maestro 4220's rechargeable
battery operates normally for up to four full
hours, and the integrated SiRFstarIII™ chipset
receiver and highly sensitive antenna provides the absolute
fastest GPS position acquisition available in the industry
today.
