Navigon 7200T Review
In North America today, the Navigon brand is not as renowned
as some others, however, it is definitely gaining in market
share. This is due in part because of the introduction of the
sleek Navigon 7200T. For those looking for an
affordable GPS device the Navigon 7200T is an excellent high
end portable device for navigation that fits the bill.
Product Overview
The Navigon 7200T is different in
design compared with some of the older navigon models. You'll
notice that it is slightly bigger than other similar screen
size devices, because of its thick black matte casing that
makes it look classy and sleek. However, it is still quite
compact, making it easy to take along with you wherever you go.
With the flat screen, the look is both streamlined as well as
sophisticated. It's very easy to view the maps on this screen,
since it is bright and extremely sharp, and the screen is
fairly responsive as well. Predictive text is offered as well,
so it brings up possible results while you are entering
letters.

7200T Portable GPS Navigation
When you purchase the Navigon 7200T, you'll find that it
comes with a vehicle mount, which works
both on the dashboard and on your windshield. A software CD
comes with it, a car charger is included, and there are also
some reference materials to help out as well.
You'll also find that the user interface is fairly easy to
figure out and use. When you are on the start menu, there are
four options available. The options include Voice Entry, My
Destinations, New Destination, and Take Me Home. There are a
few extra steps to get to the map on the screen, but it is
still fairly easy to use.
Benefits and Features
There are a variety of excellent benefits and features that
come along with the 7200T. One great benefit is that the
Navigon comes with maps of Canada, the USA, the U.S. Virgin
Islands, and even Puerto Rico. You can plan a trip in a variety
of ways as well. You can simply enter a point of interest, a
user defined home, a destination you recently went to, or a
specific address where you want to go.
One extremely large feature is that this model allows you to
use your voice to enter addresses, leaving you hands free when
you need to have our hands occupied driving. You do have to
work with the voice command system so that it learns to
recognize your voice as well as the sounds in the environment.
The more you use this voice entry system, the better the
results are going to get.
There are several ways that routes can be computed by the
Navigon 7200T as well. You can get short routes, optimum
routes, and fast routes. You can also choose to avoid toll
roads or any highways. You'll even find that there is a mode
for pedestrians and a mode to use for bicycling as well. Real
time traffic updates are also offered for free and for the life
of the device. So, before you get to a problem, you can learn
about any construction or traffic jams and it will give you an
alternate route. It's easy to see what's ahead on the road and
if there are any problems, and you can easily find details on
the problems that are occurring as well so you can decide
whether you want to try going another way.
You also have the ability to choose whether you want to view
the maps in 2D mode or in 3D mode. Using 3D mode can be very
helpful, allowing you to get great views of landmarks and more.
The map screen gives you a lot of useful information as well,
showing you the distance to the destination, the next turn,
where you are currently, the speed limit on the road, and when
you should arrive.

Actual User Comments :
- I was a previous owner of a Garmin 750. I must
confess the features that I really admired in the 750
were its ease of use and its multimedia capability.
However, the lack of bluetooth capability (useful in
states where answering your cell phone while driving is
illegal) and the lack of free traffic updates (which
required an optional reciever and subscription) were a
turnoff and did cause some inconvenience. Then I
discovered the sheer joy of the Navigon 7200T. It's the
best GPS you've never heard of. The free lifetime
traffic updates, optional freshmaps service-which
provides 12 map updates over 3 years for less than what
Garmin would charge for one update, the Zagat ratings,
logically arranged POIs were just what I was looking
for. - Ahmed Fazly, MN, USA
- After owning a Garmin Nuvi 660 for around 2
years, I got tired of not having updated maps where
alot of the areas already developed over a year ago
STILL weren't there. While traffic was nice, I didnt
think I should have to pay extra when the unit
originally cost over $400. Enter the Navigon 7200T.
This GPS fixes most of the previous version's issues
(auto night/day, more accurate directions, etc) plus it
has built in Zagats and great Voice recognition SW. The
Zagats is ultra cool for folks like me that do alot of
business travel and know restaurants only by
name.
