TomTom GO 720 Review
The TomTom GO 720 is an amazing new GPS
device that offers plenty of high quality features without
breaking the bank. It has a lot of innovation, and shares a lot
of similarities to its big brother the GO 920.

Style
One of the big draws to the 720 is its stylish looks. It has
a high quality exterior and is also easy to carry around. In
fact, it is so small that it can easily fit in a shirt or pants
pocket. This is great news for those who are looking to get
away from bulkier models that can be more hassle than they are
worth.
The screen is an impressive 4.3 inches wide
and offers excellent touch screen functionality. For those who
are tired of squinting and straining to try and see the screen
properly when driving, It's refreshing to note the anti-glare
properties of the screen. That means great style and easy
functionality.
Usability
The GO 720 is renowned for its easy to use
interface. There is no need to labor for days trying to figure
out what different symbols and functions mean. It is basically
ready to go right out of the box. That is very important for
those who just want to get on the road and go.
Travel
Travel is easy with the all-inclusive collection of maps in
the USA and Canada. Of course, maps aren't the
only important thing. The 720 also gives an in-depth look to
current travel conditions such as the weather and
traffic data.
These maps make it easy to make travel plans and put in
one's own points of interest. It will take user suggested POI's
as well as what the company has researched and entered into the
system.
Actual user review:
• "Because this GPS has been around for a while, the
hype has settled and the price has therefore lowered
significantly. It has amazing features that the most expensive
GPS units offer. The newer model, the GO 730, has the new IQ
routes and lane guidance features, however i don't think that
these features alone would be worth the extra $100 (50% of the
units cost!). The handsfree works perfectly with my verizon LG
phone. It connects automatically when I turn the unit on and I
can keep my phone in my pocket. The navigation works well and
the speaker is loud. The screen is bright and clear. I love
that this unit allows you to add POI's and make map corrections
right on the device." - S.Weinberg (USA)
Up to Date Maps
When many people purchase a GPS device they are often
worried that the maps will be outdated very quickly. This is
not a problem for the TomTom GO 720. There are constantly new
maps and information available for free download from TomTom's
Home website. This is a great bonus over those companies that
require their customers to pay high fees for up to date
maps.
TomTom also has their "MapShare" technology
that makes it easy for people to upload maps and add
corrections. That means it's possible to drive like a local no
matter what since there are always so many people contributing
to the database. This is all made possible through the TomTom
Home software.
Advanced Features
Though this GPS device is very easy to use there may come a
time where a feature isn't automatically obvious. For cases
like this there is a "Help" function that can really come in
handy. That means no matter what, it's easy to figure out
exactly what to do.
TomTom Plus service is an excellent
advanced feature that is available for 720 users. It easily
checks the weather and traffic conditions anytime and anywhere.
It's even possible to download different voices to further
customize the experience and reporting on this device.
Complaints
One complaint people have of the TomTom is that while it's
easy to make additions and corrections to maps, as well as get
new ones released by TomTom, it is not possible to install
other maps other than through the HOME online interface. This
is generally a minor inconvenience as TomTom is constantly
adding new maps and it's easy enough to use the online
system.
Summary
The TomTom GO 720 is an all around good purchase. It's not
top of the line like the 920, but it offers a great size and
function. The TomTom user interface and HOME system are second
to none. Since travel information is constantly changing it's
nice to know that it's easy to gain access to the latest data,
whether it be a change in a map or a change in the weather.
Those who decide to explore the 720 will certainly not be
disappointed.
More user reviews:
• "I really love the 720. I have tried the Garmin Nuvi
and just didn't like the software nearly as much as the TomTom.
Entering addresses is really fast and you only see towns in the
state you are looking in. This means no more having to scroll
through 30 different Springfields to get to the one you are
searching for. You can hide the keyboard to see a long list of
close matches so instead of having to type out the full city or
street name you can just hit the first few letters and then
pick from a list." M.Selez (CA,USA)
• "Managing an office staff with a fleet vehicles,
everyone in my group has a GPS. We originally purchased the
Garmin IQue 3600, but it was time for an upgrade. We purchased
a Garmin Nuvi and a TomTom Go 720 for comparison purposes since
they were both the same price. The TomTom Go 720 was our
favorite for many reasons. First, the TomTom is more of a
traveller's unit. The features fit what we needed to do the
most. Second, the Tom Tom has an online update feature. The
TomTom can remember personal changes to the map and even update
itself when connected to the internet. Finally, the Tom Tom
computer software and interface is a dream and virtually
non-existant on the Garmin. Overall, we purchased 10 TomTom Go
720 Units and everyone is very happy." - J.Kinney
